Rotaract was founded to develop effective leaders and promote responsible citizenship. As our generation plays a growing role in directing the affairs of this community, it is important that our members be well-positioned to accept the challenge of helping Birmingham reach its potential of becoming a world-class city. We believe those who are led to think boldly can effect real change. Rotaract provides an avenue for members to serve the greater Birmingham community by embracing the Rotarian philosophy of "Service Above Self."
Founded in 2004, the Rotaract Club of Birmingham is comprised of young professionals who are deeply committed to playing a key role in serving communities locally, nationally and internationally. The Club is one of more than 8,800 Rotaract clubs worldwide and one of the world's largest community based club with more than 300 total members. Meetings are held at noon on the first and third Thursday of each month at the Harbert Center in downtown Birmingham. The club promotes various informative and specialized membership opportunities under the motto — Learn. Socialize. Serve.
The Rotaract Club of Birmingham Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) organization, was created in 2007 to accept, manage and distribute contributions made for Rotaract Club of Birmingham’s service initiatives. Current activities of the Foundation include maintaining Ready 2 Read classroom libraries, providing ACT preparation for Ready 2 Succeed students, sponsoring the Achieve Alabama scholarship service, and supporting community needs aligned with the club’s service initiatives. Each spring, Rotaract Club of Birmingham hosts the Foundation Ball, benefitting the Rotaract Club of Birmingham Foundation.
